Calcium Carbide
Calcium carbide is one of the basic raw materials in the organic synthetic chemical industry. It is an important raw material for acetylene chemical industry, widely used in metal welding and cutting. eets with water, it reacts violently immediately, generating acetylene and releasing heat, and its content varies with the melting point. It is an important basic chemical raw material, mainly used to produce acetylene gas.

Calcium Carbide Details
Calcium carbide should be stored in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. The relative humidity is kept below 75%. The packaging must be sealed and protected from moisture. It should be stored separately from acids and alcohols, and avoid mixed storage. The storage area should be equipped with suitable materials to contain the leakage.
Production methods are aerobic heating method and electric heating method. Generally, electrothermal method is used for production, that is, quicklime and carbon-containing raw materials (coke, anthracite or petroleum coke) are generated in the calcium carbide furnace by the high-temperature melting reaction of the electric arc.
The main production process is: raw material processing; batching; adding the mixture into the electric furnace through the entrance or pipeline at the upper end of the electric furnace, and heat it to about 2000 ℃ in an open or closed electric furnace, and generate by the following reaction: GaO+3C→CaC2+CO . After its melting is taken out from the bottom of the furnace, it is cooled and crushed as a finished product package. The carbon monoxide produced in the reaction is discharged in different ways depending on the type of calcium carbide furnace: in an open furnace, carbon monoxide is burned on the material surface, and the flame generated is scattered outwards along with the dust; in a semi-closed furnace, part of the carbon monoxide is placed The suction hood on the furnace is extracted, and the remaining part is still burning on the material surface; in a closed furnace, all the carbon monoxide is extracted.
Application
1. Acetylene generated by reaction with water can synthesize many organic compounds, such as synthetic rubber, synthetic resin, acetone, ketene, carbon black, etc.; at the same time, acetylene-oxygen flame is widely used for welding and cutting of metals.
2. When it is heated with nitrogen, it reacts to form calcium cyanamide, that is, lime nitrogen. The cyanide melt produced by the reaction of lime nitrogen with table salt is used for gold mining and non-ferrous metal industry.
3. It can be used as a desulfurizer in the steel industry.
